    Heat Pump Balance Point Calculator

What is a heat pump balance point?

The balance point is the outdoor temperature at which a heat pump’s heating output exactly equals the building’s heat loss. Above it, the heat pump alone keeps the house comfortable; below it, capacity falls short and auxiliary (strip or furnace) heat makes up the difference. Typical residential balance points fall between 25°F and 40°F.
