New York Electrical Code: NEC 2023

New York follows NEC 2023 as the basis for electrical work. Permits and inspections are issued by the local Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), which may publish additional amendments.

The 2025 NYS Uniform Code (effective 2025-12-31) references NEC 2023; NYC has its own Electrical Code based on NEC with significant amendments.
