Frozen Pipe Immediate Mitigation
Short-term freeze response: 1) Shut off water at affected branch or main, 2) Open downstream faucets, 3) Warm pipe section gradually with safe heat source, 4) Inspect for splits before repressurizing, 5) Insulate and seal drafts to prevent recurrence.
Common symptoms
- No flow at one or more fixtures during freezing weather
- Frost on exposed piping
- Bulging pipe section
- Water leak starts after thaw
