Low Water Pressure Diagnosis
Systematic approach to diagnosing low water pressure issues. Start by testing pressure at multiple fixtures to determine if the problem is localized or system-wide. Check the main water line pressure, inspect for leaks, examine aerators and showerheads for clogs, and test the pressure reducing valve if present.
Common symptoms
- Weak flow from faucets or showerheads
- Long fill times for appliances
- Poor shower performance
- Inconsistent water flow between fixtures
Common repairs
- Clean or replace clogged aerators
- Adjust or replace pressure reducing valve
- Repair main line leaks
- Replace corroded galvanized pipes
- Install pressure booster pump
Safety note
Shut off supply before testing or adjusting valves. Use a pressure gauge; typical residential 40–80 PSI.
