Hot Water Line Installation
Install dedicated hot water line for laundry room
- Turn off water supply and drain lines before cutting
- Use caution with torch and hot pipe
- Follow local code for pipe type and sizing
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Plan Route and Sizing
Determine route from water heater to laundry room. Check code for pipe size (often 1/2 inch). Plan for minimal joints and proper support.
💡 Pro Tips:
- Run along joists or walls
- Avoid areas that may freeze
✅ Expected Result:
Route and materials are planned
Step 2: Run and Support Pipe
Run hot water line along planned route. Support every 4-6 feet. Use appropriate fittings for corners and branches. Leave stub-out for laundry.
💡 Pro Tips:
- Solder or crimp per material
- Install shut-off at laundry end
⚠️ Safety Notes:
- Allow pipe to cool before touching after soldering
✅ Expected Result:
Hot water line is run and supported
Step 3: Connect to Heater and Laundry
Connect new line to water heater outlet (or branch from existing hot line). Connect laundry end to washer box or shut-off valve.
💡 Pro Tips:
- Use dielectric union if connecting copper to galvanized
- Label line as hot
✅ Expected Result:
Line is connected at both ends
Step 4: Pressurize and Test
Turn water supply on. Open laundry shut-off. Check all joints for leaks. Run hot water at laundry to purge air.
💡 Pro Tips:
- Check for leaks at every joint
- Insulate pipe in unheated spaces
✅ Expected Result:
Hot water line is leak-free and delivers hot water to laundry
