Steps
Turn Off Water Supply
- Locate main outdoor shutoff valve
- Turn off completely
- Open outdoor faucets to relieve pressure
✅Continue Gate:Water supply off and pressure relieved?
Drain All Outdoor Lines
- Open all outdoor faucets and spigots
- Drain sprinkler systems if applicable
- Remove garden hoses and drain
✅Continue Gate:All lines drained and dry?
Protect Exposed Pipes
- Wrap exposed pipes with pipe insulation
- Secure insulation with tape or zip ties
- Focus on areas near exterior walls
✅Continue Gate:All exposed pipes insulated?
Install Freeze Caps
- Install freeze-proof caps on spigots
- Ensure caps are secure and weather-tight
- Check for any remaining openings
Sprinkler System Winterization
- Blow out system with compressed air if available
- Drain all zones completely
- Set controller to "off" or winter mode
