    Refrigerant Charge Calculator — Superheat

What target superheat should a fixed-orifice system have?

The calculator uses the standard field approximation target superheat = (3 × indoor wet-bulb − 80 − outdoor dry-bulb) / 2, clamped to a sensible 5 to 35 °F window. High superheat above target indicates undercharge (add refrigerant), while low superheat indicates overcharge or low indoor airflow with floodback risk (recover). TXV systems are not charged by superheat — use subcooling instead.
