Optical Fiber (OFN / OFC)
Glass or plastic fiber carrying data as light. NEC Article 770 classifies cable as nonconductive (OFN) or conductive (OFC, containing a metallic member that must be bonded). Immune to EMI and not distance-limited like copper.
Common uses
Backbone links, long runs, EMI-prone environments
Safety note
Never look into a live fiber — invisible laser energy can damage the retina.
