Heat Exchanger
Component that transfers heat between two fluids without mixing them. In furnaces, the heat exchanger transfers heat from combustion gases to indoor air. In AC/heat pumps, evaporator and condenser coils act as heat exchangers. Cracked or failed heat exchangers in furnaces pose carbon monoxide risk and require replacement.
Common symptoms
- Carbon monoxide risk (furnace)
- Reduced heating
- Cracked or corroded exchanger
Common repairs
- Heat exchanger replacement
- Combustion analysis
